World Cup live updates: Uruguay and South Korea remain scoreless at halftime

Uruguay and South Korea created chances in fits and starts, but neither was able to put anything together and we’re scoreless after 45 minutes.

South Korea came out intending to apply pressure and controlled much of the early going before Uruguay began to assert itself. But the underdogs again were on the front foot toward the end of the half, and Hwang Ui-jo missed on South Korea’s best chance in the 34th minute, his wide-open strike from inside the box clearing the crossbar by a good margin.

Uruguay got a bit unlucky in the 43rd minute, when Diego Godín’s header off a corner kick beat South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu but couldn’t solve the left post and bounded away.
